Many music-lovers’ "hear-before-I-die list" includes Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle but who can afford four performance nights, 15 hours and a trip to Bayreuth?
Take heart; an accessible 70-minute version, ‘Ring without Words’ performs September 12th at Eagle Farm Racecourse, a highlight of Brisbane Festival.
Conductor Lorin Maazel chronologically wove the orchestral without voice interludes into a seamless flow of ‘best of’ Wagner’s lush music.
And, ye gods, this is free!
Bring or pre-order a picnic hamper, a folding chair or rug, lie back and be serenaded as sunset fades into starlight.
Also on the programme; Franz Liszt’s Les Préludes third and most popular of his twelve symphonic poémes.
Celebrate with the largest ensemble of orchestral players from Brisbane Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Antoni Bonetti, in its special twentieth birthday year.
