Mark your dates for our 2019 concert season…!!!

Season 1

Our concert season in 2019 starts with the theme of New World, Old Friends, and the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will be playing with friends both old and new throughout the year.  It was indeed the extremely close friendship between Brahms and Dvorak that inspired Season 1. The young Dvorak owed his international career to Brahms, who encouraged and supported him without reserve, and we celebrate this unique friendship by performing the Brahms Piano Concerto No 2 with our soloist, acclaimed Australian pianist Daniel de Borah, together with perhaps the world's most popular symphony, Dvorak's From the New World.

Season 2

Season 2 sees the orchestra joining forces again with our good friends, the Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir, in Mendelssohn's magnificent Elijah at The Caloundra Events Centre and then in Brisbane's beautifully refurbished St John’s Cathedral, a fitting location for this stirring work.

Season 3

In Season 3, we will be joined by new (and very young) friends.  In accordance with the orchestra's desire to encourage young talent, we feature a world premiere of a work by Paul-Antoni Bonetti (our esteemed Maestro's son!), and soloists Anwen Deng and Jeremy Sun.  Anwen, from Perth, was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music at only 6 years old, and Jeremy (now aged 12) has won numerous international piano awards.  This will be a very special concert for a Brisbane audience to hear both these amazing young performers, whose musicality far outweighs their tender years.

Season 4

For Season 4 we are privileged to be working again with conductor Paul Dean.  Paul will be joined by Trish O'Brien, Michelle Walsh and Stephen Emerson in Beethoven's Triple Concerto.  And if that isn't enough, we will also be playing Shostakovitch's Symphony No 5 and the lyrical Sibelius Valse Triste!  A powerful and moving end to our concert year.
