Brisbane Symphony Orchestra congratulates Antoni Bonetti (AM) on inclusion in Australia Day Honours 2021
The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra warmly congratulates its founding Music Director and Conductor Laureate Antoni Bonetti (AM) on being awarded an Honorary Membership of the Order of Australia (General Division).
This honour is given in respect of his significant service to the performing arts as an orchestral conductor and musical director.
The recognition comes at a time when, after 30 years as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the BSO, Antoni is stepping down from his role and passing on the baton. The BSO will celebrate this transition at a gala concert at Brisbane City Hall on 29 August 2021. We are thrilled that Antoni will continue his association with the BSO, its members and the general public as Conductor Laureate.
Within the BSO his legacy cannot be overstated. He has dedicated countless hours of service over 30 years building up and establishing the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra to become one of Australia's pre-eminent community orchestras. His legacy includes not only high-quality musical performances, but also an inclusive, encouraging and welcoming culture and an easy rapport with audiences.
Our membership feels very privileged and proud to have had the opportunity to work so closely with Antoni over such a long period of time.

Our 2021 Seasons
Brisbane Symphony Orchestra are delighted to announce our first concert of 2021 “Exuberance and Passion”. Sparkling with musical gems such as the Overture to “Russlan and Ludmila” by Glinka, Dvorak’s Symphony No.8 and the Polonaise from “Eugene Onegin”, the Orchestra are celebrating a return to their normal concert season programming in 2021.
It is with great excitement that we welcome Brisbane clarinettist, composer and conductor, Paul Dean. Paul first conducted the orchestra as a guest in 2018 and 2019, and in 2020 conducted and performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra during our socially-distanced restricted rehearsals. Paul will be conducting, and has chosen the repertoire for our March concert in City Hall.
